Kevin, i am taking this one to the list as it may be useful to others: Re playing compressed cached movies and sounds. . .you said: > This implies that the downloaded compressed files would be saved to disk. . .but, can this process > happen "mid-air" i.e. in cache/ram? i.e. > > If you downloaded a sound file, picture file or movie could you set the > picturedata of an image rect (in the case of images) and then unload the URlL > or set player objects to the sound or movie and then unload those URL's i.e. > "play it right out of the cache."? i.e. there would be no "tlocalFilePath" > in that scenario. >Kevin responded: You can for stacks and images, but not players, which have to >store their data in files. But we know this works for a movie that gets downloaded: on mouseUp global href1 # where we know the movie is already cached play videoclip url href1 unload url href1 end mouseUp so what we are saying is that you _cannot_ set the filename of player theMovie to URL "http://someMovieThatWeKnowIsCachedNow." But then perhaps there is never a need to do this since you can simply play the videoclip right out of the cache whenever you needed it.
