Dear All,
Many people replied to my plea for info regarding using MetaCard to replace
common cgi-type stuff, both on-list and off-list. Thanks to the help of
many, I've finally got the thing down! And I have to say this is cooler
than sliced bread.

I'm running our high school's web site on a 350 MHz iMac using WebStar. I
was looking at some packages (NetCloak being one) that would allow me to
create online quizzes, tests, surveys, forms, etc. I was avoiding using
MetaCard because I thought I'd have to learn AppleEvents. Not the funnest
thing. But I really wanted to find a way to use MetaCard, 'cause I knew I
could script just about anything I'd need. Enter the http stack.

Now I'm a happy camper. WebStar is hosting my school web site, and any
forms, quizzes, tests, etc, are served up by the http stack, which can also
call various stack scripts. This was accomplished with much help from
people on the list, as well as the countless hours I've spent playing with
sockets. And my parents told me never to do that...

Alright already. Anyway, I posted a quiz on our web site, and when you
click on the "Submit" button, a MetaCard script grades the stack and returns
the results. Cool! The web page itself is a form generated with
DreamWeaver, and it's just regular old html. So I can design all kinds of
practice quizzes and tests, etc. And make my school the coolest technology
school in the county. Nobody else around here is doing anything like this!

I will very shortly be putting the "Powered by MetaCard" logo on our school
web site. I can't tell you how great I felt when I went online the first
time and clicked on the "Submit" button, and two seconds later my results
came back. But that "YEEESSS!!!!" response is probably not new to most of
the folks on this list. And it all has to do with the power of scripting
and MetaCard.

--Disclaimer - Please don't flame me if you find the quiz invalid. It's
just a test concept! And I didn't bother to make the results look pretty
either.

Anyway, sorry 'bout the long-winded post, but I just wanted to say "thanks"
and to encourage others to try this approach... once it's done and in place,
it cranks. The web page address is:
