Thanks for everyone's input on the Flash question. Scott and Blair confirmed
our experience with Flash's "horrific" development environment for any kind
of interactivity. We'll stay on course with what we are doing now, broad
band width isn't that far away:

A new version of my "hakey.mc" stack is available and incorporates a lot of
input from everyone who responded off list to beta test it.

www.himalayanacadamy.com/studyhall/index.html

gets to the location. This key stack will soon be built into two stand
alones, one for mac and one for windoz. So any more input will be most
useful right away.

For those who responded before, I have not had chance to refine the
interface on the Portal stack (which is downloaded by the Key stack) or the
two "study' components that are currently available. Staying focused right
now on the delivery mechanism . . .

A revision list for the key stack:

1) We "conquered" the proxy problem we had here by simply giving a user the
chance to enter it and save to a prefs file in the same directory. [Scott, I
didn't include the headers thing for now. . .but maybe later.]

2) we added a button which allows for the user to, in the future, open
stacks that he saves to disk.

3) we added "window" dressing: the stack downloads a text file of URL's for
lovely images into a variable and then turns right around and randomly
selects a URL for an image and loads that into the stack to give make it
decent to look at. Some very lovely images from Hawaii and Mauritius will
change every time the user opens the stack or reads the help file.

Further comments will appreciated. I am especially interested on what
happens if you don't have a connection to the net. We have a 24 T-1
connection that I can't turn off without the computer going nuts. I am not
sure if I trapped properly for no connection on start up.

And for those who were so courteous as to inquire about poking around the
stacks: All the content, images, text etc. are copyright Himalayan Academy
Publications and require permission for re-use.

But all the scripts and stack structures are "open source" freeware, grab
whatever you want. Let me know if you improve on anything.
