michael,
I would have done the same if i had not just dived in and tried to make
my own application first. i have had very bad luck with tutorials for the
very reasons you outlined with metacard. stick with mc, if you need to
create powerful apps, you can with mc. you can do anything and more that
youve done with hc, sc, or omo and keep using the same hypertalk language
and get pretty much instant conversion to pcs if you limit yourself to
builtin features. It might take you a few days to a week to get
comfortable with mc, but its worth it, expecially if you look at the
alternatives out there. also scott's support for the product is second to
none. Ive built both cdroms and kiosk apps with mc so far and its done
very well with the easiest cross platform ive ever done.
its not for the weak of heart right now, but for serious app building its
very hard to beat, especially xplatform, stability, and versitility wise.
there is a new programming interface in the works at xworlds.
good luck and hang in there a while itll be worth it.
cheers,
jeff
