I wonder if you really need to do anything to the Mac. On my G3 333 MHz (with
an old Rage Pro graphics chip in it) it didn't stutter... Make sure you have the
latest ATI drivers, I suppose. But, if you have a G4, I'd guess the newest
drivers shipped with the machine.
Make sure the app is getting enough RAM (though it shouldn't be a problem with
MetaCard) . If it's having to use Virtual Memory, that would slow down the
machine considerably... if you don't have more than 64MB of RAM (dumb that Apple
offers only that as the base on all machines) , Virtual Memory is probably
turned on and being used quite a bit.
Also, make sure you HAVE the ATI drivers in the extensions folder... if not, the
machine's graphics are just plain icky (try starting up without extensions on to
see a nasty display of the Mac's graphics, since there is no graphics
acceleration when extensions are disabled) .
