Really the only way to do this is to test the application, measure its
resource useage and then decide. On some OSes (e.g. Mac) you can easily
measure the amount of memory in use, figure out the maximum it ever uses
during testing. On Windows there is an accesory that shows various types of
resource use. But trial and error, and running on a slow machine is always
going to be necessary for a commercial application if you need to specify
specific requirements.
