I remembered reading that I can create a Solaris standalone on my Mac
simply by pointing at the appropriate executable in the standalone
builder, and I happened to have access to a Solaris box today.
So I downloaded the Solaris .tar file, and it decompressed into
several text files. They were:
gunzip
xanim.gz
mc.gz
I tossed mc.gz onto Stuffit Expander again, and it decompressed to a
text file, mc (no extension).
MetaCard's standalone builder refused to recognize any of these as
the engine. It seems that it is filtering for files with file type
"APPL"
I changed the file type on the file "mc" to "APPL" (with an
AppleScript) and successfully built the standalone. I ftp'd it to the
Solaris box, and it worked, flawlessly!
Life is good.
