I'm not a statHead, but:
Sounds to me like a common contribution format would work for the common good.
Here's one way it could work:
1) Someone builds and publishes a contribution template stack. It can be simple
and ugly, but:
- it would have some required fields:
- stat function category (I liked this about Dave Jones' stat stack)
- handler name
- description of what the handler does
- descriptions of all parameters it requires or allows
- submitter's name and email
- maybe it will have some optional fields:
- source citations (where you found it)
- info about contexts where this item would be useful
- each field should have a unique, appropriate name. This will help the GUI
creator later.
2) Everyone puts the template stack through a testing cycle
a. use it to organize two or three complex stat scripts.
b. Report your needs/results/recommendations back to the template creator.
c. Let the template creator modify and re-publish it.
d. using the new version, go to (a.)
e. keep doing this until the template stack contains all necessary fields
3) Each person uploads their stat stacks to a public directory where only
template-based stat stacks live.
4) the template creator gives a copy of the template stack to the GUI creator.
5) The GUI creator builds a neat, clean, pretty front-end stack that:
- pulls info from each stack found in the public directory
- presents end user with everything currently available
I monkeyed around with Dave's stack for a couple of hours today and made a GUI
for it that improves a person's access to the great stuff he put in there.
Something similar could work for a directory full of those critters!
My stack (created with 2.3.2 B4) is available here:
