I'm developing a series of stacks for downloading over an academic
network. Some of these stacks will be run directly from their server
location, others will be downloaded and run from student
workstations. A student can login to the network using any of
several hundreds of Windows NT workstations, where they'll see their
own networked U drive. My plan is that the MetaCard Player will live
and run from a server which is accessible to the students (so
students don't need their own copy of the Player). However, the
first time they try to download a stack, their system (or, more
accurately, their profile) will not know how to handle *.mc files -
which *.exe to run and what icons to give the files.

Obviously, a switched-on student could set up the file association
details themselves given sufficient information. However, I can't
assume that level of computer/Windows competence! Thus, I'd like to
provide a simple downloadable *.exe that sets up the file association
for the user without them having to work through the process manually.

Please can anyone tell me how to set up the Registry under Windows
from within MetaCard so that the system knows about *.mc files, how
to open them and what icons to use. I plan to produce a standalone
written in MetaCard that sets up the association for the user.

Thanks
Peter
