Hi George,

     I'm not sure that I understand your question.  The stack is being 
developed for data files which, although not ideally formatted, are of a 
specific format.  In other words, I know that each record begins with a 
specific character or words and each one ends with a specific character 
or words (e.g., "//").  I checked that by openning the file in a word 
processor (it's possible but awkward) and looking at a few pages.
