Again, we haven't done specific research on this but my educated guess
would be yes: The networking implementation on most UNIX systems is
much better than on Macs as is the OS API for dealing with sockets.
For example, on UNIX systems events from the graphical system come in
the same way as events from sockets. It's more a "bag on the side"
approach in MacOS and there times when rapidly switching back and
forth between the two points of entry can really bog down the system.
Things will be better on OS X unless the GUI is being used at the same
time (all that "throbbing" really sucks up the CPU time ;-)
But I think the bigger issue is more likely to be convenience. The
difference in performance or reliability between the various platforms
is probably not significant unless you're running a very high-volume
site, in which case you probably wouldn't be using mchttpd anyway. If
what you've got is Macs, using those would be the way to go.
