Creating non-rectangular buttons displaying name/label directly *on* the
button:

I would be useful to have such buttons - with semi-transparent gifs or
pngs - whose labels/names can be changed during runtime or if you want
be able to use the same image with
different texts.

Button icons display the transparent parts of images correctly, but the
name/label can be only
displayed right, left or beneath the icon image, not *on top* of the
image.

Feature request:
- allow the name/label of a button to be displayed directly *on* the
icon image.

Images as backpatterns of buttons allow to display the name/label *on
top* of the image, but the transparent parts of non-rectangular images
are displayed as black.

By the way, a set hilitepattern is not shown with "standard" buttons,
you have to set the style to "rectangular" ( is this intended for some
reason or a bug?).

Feature request:

- preserve the transparency of backpattern images as with icons
- add a possibility to set the back- and hilitepatterns in the property
dialog

=============
Additional feature request for both icon and backpattern images:

- add a "third-state property" as a possibility to indicate when the
mouse cursor touches the button.

There are authoring tools around that have this feature (see
"Multimediabuilder" at www.mediachance.com). In Metacard, you have to
script this with mouseenter- and mouseleave handlers.
=============

The most elegant way to solve this issue would probably be
to add a possibility in Metacard to display the name or label of a
button directly on top of its icon.-
