I agree wholeheartedly; but my suggestion would be that you point your 12
year-old toward HyperCard rather than MetaCard.
Even though HyperCard may die at the hands of OS X, it is still the best
place for a beginner to start:
* It's like teaching someone the basics of driving in a Volkswagen before
putting them behind the wheel of a formula 1 racer.
* HC is oriented to the novice; MC is oriented to the professional developer.
* The HC mail list is extremely supportive of new (& young) users; MC list
is oriented toward professionals.
* There is an abundance of HC examples and tutorials available on the Internet.
I suggest you or your student eMail R. Charles Flickenger, keeper of the
HyperCard Mail List CD-ROM <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, and see about getting a copy
of the CD. Cost is minimal (Charles has been know to give them away when
the person & reason are worthy of it). The CD contains several hundred MBs
of examples & tutorials, as well as information about the HyperCard Mail
List.
