I have a stack & text file for a very simple local IP network chat
program which I developed based on material posted to this list. I
did this to check that I could include comms code in a program that
would have to work across a mixed network of Macs and PCs. The text
file contains people names and associated IP addresses so the user
can pick a name rather than pick an IP address.
Note, on my small network, whilst the Macs could see the PC,
initially the PC couldn't see the Macs. This was because the Macs
were using AppleTalk(MacIP) instead of straight Ethernet as the TCP
protocol. Once I'd changed the setting of the TCP/IP control panel
to "Ethernet", all worked fine.
