Reward? There is no reward. It's our domain, but we don't have the
time to micro-manage something so big. This is why we asked for
help, this week however, we have come up with a working model and
business plan in order to serve the MC community as best we can. The
main site, controlled by myself and my partners, will link to all the
micro sites within mctools.org. You and a few dozen others will all
have FREE disk space and access to your own account under mctools.org
where you can do anything you want as long as it has to do with
MetaCard.
Under the main site, my partners and I will be maintaining the
mchttpd server, the signup page and the .mt discussion forum. As
soon as the forum is in place, I'll add in a third section which will
begin to link up all the FREE user account sites under mctools.org
created by the dozens of members. Currently, your site was simply
too sparse and although well intentioned, to complex. Sorry if we
gave you the impression that it would become the main site, it was an
error on our part to allow you access to the root level. It takes
time, energy and *resources* to make a site *that* large work. We
simply don't have those resources. We need to move faster if we are
to provide the MC community with what they need, currently, we feel
that need is to push .mt scripting into the open.
Here's the deal. .mt scripting is lagging behind all else, while MC
is doing well, it's web abilities are standing in the shadows. In
order to get the ball rolling on this MetaCard feature, we made the
decision to host the entire community for FREE! Yes, FREE. This has
to be done because the majority of the MC users don't have access to
a real world server which runs mchttpd. We will provide all the
tools necessary to allow people to begin testing their .mt scripts
NOW. We had to act quickly, and the response so far has been good.
In a few weeks we should have the bulletin board system running.
This bulletin board will only allow discussions about .mt scripting
to take place. We expect everything else to continue to be discussed
on the mailing list. That way, people can go in, see a topic of
interest, read up on it, get the examples and create their own
scripts. Starting up a new list for this purpose is not very useful,
we could have just as easily left it with the current list. But we
feel that if .mt scripting is to succeed, then everything the
community has to offer about .mt scripting should remain in one
collaborative area in order for the community to benefit.
Support is key for .mt scripting to succeed, this has been the idea
behind mctools.org from the very beginning. We never intended to
provide support for every nook and cranny about MC. Only it's
growing web based features.
As for all your hard work to date, as appreciated as it was, it was
not what we wanted. But it's obvious that it's what you wanted, and
others will likely want something else. This is great, we're happy
to see you're enthusiasm, but please understand, creating a site for
any application requires tons of man hours. We don't have those
kinds of resources to dedicate to the community.
We will be dependant on the community to maintain micro sites under
the mctools.org domain. In this fashion, we envision dozens of
users, all with different interests for MC, sharing what they know
and love.
It's the Pantheon we were all hoping for and more. I'm blessed to be
able to offer this to everyone, it took a lot of hard work over a
period of two years to be able to afford the cost of this project and
offer it to the list. I don't much like getting blasted publicly for
it over a misunderstanding.
