Hi Everyone,
I've now decided to drop FileMaker, served from a Mac in my office,
as my method of serving databases to my students, and instead use MC as a
kind of client Internet helper application. FileMaker is causing me
nothing but grief because it goes down so often at the most unopportune
times...
Since I'm less than a novice, I'd like to float a couple of naive
questions here. Is it reasonable to have simple tab-delimited text files
on my Mac at work --- call it the server --- which will act as databases?
The files would reside in a folder with read and write file sharing
privileges enabled. I envision students using an MC stack on their home
computers to access information from the files like this:
put URL://my-domain/file-path into variable in student's stack and
process.
I also would like students to be able to append information, for
example, assignments, to some of the files on the server in the same way.
put fld "Student's Stuff" into URL://my-domain/file-path.
And finally, I would build a stack for myself that would administer
this stuff. Am I in the ballpark here?
Cheers,
Greg
