well i think ive figured out what works and what doesnt. I can not find
any way to get a movie (either bg or cd leyer) that has alwaysbuffered
set to false (to allow it to play smoothly) to do any visual effects when
the movie or group it is in is hidden/shown or when moving to another
card. the movie simplly blanks out w/o the effect. this is the same in
2.3 and 2.4 with the only exception being that in 2.4 when the group
containing the movie is hidden you can get the effect to work. I fiddled
with trying to set an empty hidden (or visible while lockscreen true) bg
movie to alwaysbuffered to true, set the file name, show the group with
the movie with a visual effect, then set the alwaysbuffered to false then
start playing the movie, but i get a flash of the movie on and off then
on and no visual effect. thought this might work since i was able to do
visual effects with bg movies in the past on hide and show. It appears to
be something to do with reseting the filename of the movie.
as for the hickups in the paused movie display i can eliminate them if
the movie, background image and the image being changed all reside the
card layer or in separate groups. if any of these three things reside in
the same layer you get a flash in the paused movie display when and image
is hidden/show or the filename of the image is reset. this seems to be
the same in 2.3 and 2.4.
So i have a work around for the changing images w/o effecting the movie,
but no luck on visual effects on showing a movie that has alwaysbuffer
set to false. this is workable for the current project w/o starting from
scratch.
thanks for the suggestions from folks.
