According to the ChangeLog, I made first public release of aria2 on 2006-02-17.

* Release 0.1.0
So aria2 project is now entering into 4th year!
We are going long way since then, many features added and many releases.
I tried to list new features added in this year, but I gave up because
there are 19 releases.
I think most notable feature is XML-RPC, which enables users control
running aria2 process.
There was also a good news that OpenSUSE's zypper uses aria2c by
default as a backend downloader.
Millions of thanks to everyone who supports this project.
Usually, I don't write any articles about upcoming releases, mainly
because my development takes place when my time is available. But this
time, I wrote about them.
First I'll release 1.8.3 in this weekend. It is basically bug fix
release and no new features(maybe someone can call bug fix as new
feature;) ).
While 1.8.3 is conservative, next 1.9.0 is more aggressive. I'll tell
you some of the new features here.
First, Metalink4 support will be added. The patch is already available
in the patch section, but lacks namespace handling.
1.9.0 has more refined Metalink4 support. BitTorrent Local Peer
Discovery, which I'm now coding will be also available.
