I just have to share this, as the possibilites for this vacuum sealer are endless.

I received this as a Christmas present and it is truely remarkable.

In seconds it removes over 90% of the air from a pickle jar, and I was thinking that
it could be used to preserve those hard to keep from rusting pallasites. Just set one
up in a nice clear pickle jar and pump the air out. Then set the jar in the display
case. Or alternatively, treat the specimen, put it in a jar full of the poly urethane
compound leaving a couple of inches above the liquid as airspace, then begin pumping
the air out till the urethane bubbles and the air is taken out of the cracks in the
specimen, then allow the air back into the jar thus forcing the urethane plastic into
the cracks in the specimen.

Or you can seal those stubborn pallasites in a zip-lock bag and vacuum seal it.

The possibilites are limited only by one's imagination.

I was thinking of getting quality bell jars, and making a base plate with a seal and
pumping the air out after mounting the pieces securely in the bell jar.

No air, no oxidation, and with 90% of the air out, that is like 80,000 feet, fifteen
miles up.
