2001: A Look Back

by Mark Bostick "The Big Collector"

I will remember 2001.

I will remember September 11th.

This is the year I started selling meteorites.

This is the year I went to Denver for the first time.

This is the year I started writing for Voyage!

This is the year I got drunk and....um...never mind.

This is the year my country offered a $20 million reward for a man most of us can not pronouce.

Bessey brought us thin sections and dropped the market price on them by 20-40%

Cottingham brought us Valera, a meteorite that hit a cow and was affordable.

Okay it might have hit a cow but thats good enough for most of us...:)

Farmer brought us some nice Rumuruttites showing us he still has it

The Jensens and Ann Black gave us Meteorites from A to Z

All markets were is a little crazy, and the meteorite market was no exception

We seen Sikhotes sell for $.10 a gram and Nantan's sell for $1.00 a gram (ebay)

We saw many brave rescue workers and firefighters give their lifes to save others.

As I look around the house I see meteorites everywhere (literally)

I wonder how I got so many

Then I wonder why I want more...:)

I still need a nice Esqual slice. (Sorry got off sudject).

I seen CR2's for $200 a gram in Denver and was told that was a great price, it was $500 a gram you know..:)

Then two months later we seen it for a tenth that price and I have to wonder on this for a moment.

We watched Zagami go for $150 a gram! (again on eBay..guess I spend oo much time there)

We watched American Flags burned on televison in poor third world nations

While none could be found in our stores here (never figured that one out).

We seen a president leave office for another.

Some will remember him as a great man

others as a failure.

The same can probley be said about most of us meteorite sellers.

I still dont understand the Supreme Cout ruling??

I remember when only a couple LL's where for sale.

I recall a time Gao-Genie at $2.00 a gram was a "good deal".

When Chinga and Benham didn't flood the market.

When Eucrites could hardly be found

And a terrorist had something to do with Oliver North

The meteor shower of a lifetime...clouded out.

The time I brought up NWA on the meteorite list....sorry about that...:)

A meteorite organization that was born and died.

Maybe someone should tell Rodney King no

We cant all get along...:)

I dont think any of us would trade any of it for a minute....well maybe a few minutes.

Looking foward to a great 2002.

First person to the next fall buys everybody a drink!!

Thank you to all that have welcomed me into our little community. And if you didnt welcome me I guess we better get use to each other cause I'm here to stay...:) See you in Tucson!  Mark
