Yes, remember that. Ebay took 4 days to respond when I asked ebays
powerseller service. And revenue from meteorite auctions is not high enough
for ebay to worry about (Unlike the revenue from many thousands of fake
artifact auctions).
Yes, we do have somebody on this list that had ebay tell them that banning
meteorites was a possibility. The delay in responce to me makes me thing
that my response from ebay has less credibility than the other ebay
responce.
Remember also that the nimber of meteorite fakes on ebay is very minimal.
What have you, 600 auctions and 6 auctions of fakes? A 99% rate of
authtentic auctions is likely among the best of any type items that is
listed on ebay.
Its time to put the meteorite possy to rest. You cant protect people from
themselves.
List members know how to spot a genuine meteorite on ebay and how to avoid
the fakes. Do continue to discuss fakes on this list. You will be helping
new members (And old) who care enough to learn about what they buy. But dont
bother ebay anymore.
Ebay dont collect meteorites so ebay dont care. When Meg reports to
shareholders at the next shareholders meeting she will not be explaining
that that extra $1.20 in closing fees came from something that was not a
real meteorite. All that shareholders will care about is that the $1.20 is
there.
Becides, ebay is only a venue (A fact that has been upheld in court in
California and many other states as well as Germany and france where
ebay and yahoo has been having a much rougher time in court than in the US).
Ebay dont claim to police their site. In fact ebay specifically points out
to users that they dont - something every single one of you agreed to have
read and accepted when you signed up for ebay. It is ebays site so they make
the rules. If you dont like the rules trade someplace else. Ebay is not
forcing you to look over their site.
If ebay had to police their site you would all be complaining about to high
of fees to trade on ebay. Likely you wouldent pay the higher cost.
So leave ebay alone with the complaints. For the honest sellers and buyers
who care enough to learn about what they are buying ebay is a very good
place to buy and sell meteorites.
Let the possy rest in peace. If we had to end all crimes we would be living
in a society more draconian than in afghanistan up to last august.
And the 1% fakes on ebay is not as bad as having ebay totally shut down as a
place to trade meteorites.
