Hi All: Here's another approach (see below two messages) to an eBay
"meteor-wrong" solution. It's based on my distinct recollection that
last year someone posted a comment on the List to the effect that
fishing lure collectors had confronted eBay on the problem of fake lures
and had somehow won (because of an association's collective voice?).
Anyone else remember ? (I didn't search the Archives.) Stand by for

Hi Guys: I'm in zealous pursuit of information that might help solve the
problem explained in the attached message I sent to an eBay seller's
concealed address via their "Ask Seller A Question" feature. Awaiting a
reply, I now believe that it would be better to ask for help from the
authors , rather than the seller, of a fishing lure book. As one of you
also co-founded the National Fishing Lure Collector's Club and edits its
magazine (Dudley), and the other hosts the Fishing Tackle Collectible
Show in North Hollywood, I feel hopeful that you will be better able to

you're selling a fishing lure book, I'd really appreciate a steer in the right
direction from you. I remember hearing somewhere that fishing lure dealers and
collectors were somehow able to get cooperation from eBay to keep sellers of fake
lures off eBay. I'm a member of a ~500 member international meteorite discussion group
composed of collectors, dealers and scientists - many of whom are concerned that
"newbies" will get turned off by the purchase of "meteor-wrongs" that wouldn't fool
more experienced collectors. Presently,in the majority of such cases, the sellers who
offer meteor-wrongs (and who are politely so informed by experts) refuse to end their
auctions. Some of us are also concerned that continued complaints to eBay (who takes
the "buyer beware" position unless solid evidence of fraud rather than skilled opinion
is presented) might result in eBay solving the problem by knocking!
off all meteorite auctions. If,in fact,fishing lure dealers and collectors were able
to get the desired eBay cooperation, we'd be appreciative if you would either advise
us how this was accomplished or lead us to someone who could. Thanks, Joel Goleman
