I recomend the nikon coolpix950. thats what I use and it now costs about
$400. You get good pictures of small things and large things and it is great
to travel with.
I cant comment on the taking photos through a microscope as I havent tried
that. So it might not be the best for that.
I wouldent recomend buying really cheap digital cameras because you will
regret it later (I know - I wish that I had learned from others mistakes
when I first bought a digital camera). And you dont need a better camera
than the 950 because if you did you wouldent be asking this question in the
first place - because you would have special needs that you would know about
(Except the taking of photos through a microscope which I cant comment on).
My camera has very heavy use (Takes many thousands of photos a month) and
hasnt been taken proper care of as good as I should be taking care of it and
has been used in dusty sandy desert conditions getting sand all over it 7 or
8 times. It is 2 1/2 years old and I havent had a problem with it yet and it
works just as good as the day that I bought it (Although when I bought it it
was a top of the line $1500 camera).
You need those special rechargable batteries. You get about 12 pictures with
4 duracels and then they are done. The camera is power mad.
Thats my opinion anyway. Good balance between cost and
features/quality/usefullness.
Cheers
DEAN
