Hello Dave and all,
Has anyone ever had this "ooze" checked out, or already know
what it is ?. Please don't let it ooze run through your fingers,
without first checking it out.
Chuck

[meteorite-list] Lawrencite-like oozing from an H6 Impact Melt
Breccia
Hi there, I too have had this problem with stones
getting all oozy and, like Mike Farmer, this was Ghubara. I
rectified it by soaking in a NaOH/Isoprop solution, washing off
with deionised water after soaking for a week or so, then re-soaking
in isoprop for another few days, drying in the oven at just above 100
deg C for about 1/2 hour (depending on thickness...) then dropping
the hot mass back into isoprop (watch this bit - can be very
dangerous indeed!!!). And finally finished it off by rubbing candle
wax into the surface which imparts no sheen or gloss but fills the
small pores with a water resistant plug that is invisible - a bit of
a palaver but it seems to have worked for the past year.
Good
luck....!
