Hello fellow list members,
I was unable to attend the 65th Meteoritical
Society meeting so I have not received the latest announcements concerning NWA
998. I will be in touch later on in the week with Dr. A.J.
Irving after he returns from a NASA Mars workshop in the field. One
very important feature he was going to discuss is the Isotopic data thus far
recorded for this Unique Orthopyroxene-bearing Nahklite.
The newly published data is so vastly different from the other five
Nahklites that several scientists are focusing in on this new information
that was supposed to be addressed at last Fridays meeting. This new data
implies that NWA 998 is not source crater paired with the other five Nahklites
which all share the same crystallization age. The data also has other
implications that go far beyond NWA 998 not being source crater
paired. Using current scientific models for these isotopes, this rock
will forever change the way scientists think about Mars. NWA 998 is a very
scientifically important find and research has just begun so expect to
read more, soon.
Wishing everybody the best,
Adam Hupe
