Hello Tom and list, About three years ago there was an exhibition here in Amsterdam of several dozen of Frank Lloyd Wright's drawings of his architectural designs. The big surprise of the show for me was this design: http://www.xs4all.nl/~piper/MeteorCraterResort.jpg ...done in 1947-48 for "Mr. and Mrs. Burton Tremaine". There must be an interesting story behind this. Does anyone on the list know more about the Tremaines and their ambitions? My own guess is that water supply was the big obstacle to carrying out this project. The location is hot, dry, and windy, and it would take a huge amount of water to provide for shade trees, swimming pool, golf course, etc. Maybe it is just as well that this resort never went beyond the drafting table stage. I know that some list members have strong opinions about the policies of the Barringer family, but the Barringers have arguably done a decent job of keeping a unique natural monument in something close to its original form in spite of hosting a rather large number of visitors.
