METEOR CAUSED SHOCK

Contact With the Earth at a Point in Minnesota Created Alarm

St. Paul, Minn., April 22. - Prof. J. M. Holzinger, of the Winona normal school faculty, says that the meteor observed on Saturday evening was really a remarkable phenomenon. It was observed not only at Winona, but at Lacrosse, Wis., Rushford, Fountain City, St. Charles and Caledonia, Minn. At both St. Charles and Fountain City it is claimed that following the bursting of the meteor there was a distinct shocl, as if the meteor had struck the earth, and at Fountain City it is claimed this was strong enough to make the dishes rattle, and produced teh effects of an earthquake. A further claim is made that one of the fragments came to the earth near St. Charles.

The meteor was first observed near the constellation Leo and moved from there in a southwesterly direction. Prof. Holzinger says it was about as large as a half moon. It is claimed at Caledonia that a portion fell not far from there.
