I believe I've seen this before. Within the past 2-3 years someone from Florida (no less) started selling it at mineral shows. I think it was shards dislodged from the smoke stack scrubber of a powerplant/incinerator etc. It is likely one of the FeS minerals-- not pyrite perhaps Markasite(sp) could have arsenic and /or zinc.
Crews enter the smokestack floor and with something like an 8 gage shotgun fire steel disk-shaped bullets up the stack to dislodge precipitates as part of the cleaning process. And (ahem) Triolite is FeS but I know triolite, he was a friend of mine and this ain't no triolite....(wink) Regards
--- Begin Message --- Dear Mr. Newton,
I read your e-mail with interest and will try to answer your questions with complete honesty and to the best of my knowledge.
Answers:
-There is no question that this could be a forgery. I have personally done the analysis and as far as the portion described on that web site which is in exact reference to my report is truly genuine. The additional info about that Meteorite (beyond the verdict of my report, if any) might be as a result of other peoples research.
-This is the first time I personally have studied and analyze this kind of a sample and while I by no means claim myself an authority in this area, however tried my best to educate myself and did a limited research in this area to come up with a very honest analysis report, to the best of my knowledge.
- I am not aware of any such thing that would give kind of a certification to UCF to classify meteorites.
I hope you would have got answers of your questions but I would love to hear more from you or from other more experienced people from this area and I would like to leave this session open for further discussion. I hope I will learn more this way.
Please feel free to e-mail me should you have further inquiries in this regard or if you think I can help in any other way.
Sincerely,
Zia

Mr. Rahman,
The following is a link to an analysis report in your name:

The second link is a picture of the rock analyzed:

Questions:
Is this a forgery or is the report genuine?
If genuine, how many meteorites have you verified?
Does UCF classify meteorites?
Thanks,
Ken Newton
