New Ariane 5 fails BY JUSTIN RAY AND STEPHEN CLARK SPACEFLIGHT NOW December 11, 2002 Arianespace was hit by a massive setback Wednesday night when the upgraded Ariane 5 rocket failed minutes into its debut flight, plummeting into the Atlantic Ocean with two communications satellites aboard. [snip] It is not yet known what the impact will be on the next Ariane 5 launch, scheduled for the evening of January 12, carrying the European Space Agency's Rosetta comet probe.
