Rex wondered: > The Cambridge EOM says that this is a meso- > siderite while this guy on ebay says it is > a metal-rich carbonaceous chondrite?
Michael Farmer responded: > It is a Bencubbinite, VERY rare carbonaceous metal-rich > chondrite. Unlike any other meteorite, small balls of metal. Rex, which part/page/chapter of the CEM are you referring to? On page 159, Fig.8.19, O.R. Norton says that Bencubbin, not Gujba (!), is a mesosiderite from Western Australia, but he also cautions: "This anomalous meteorite may be a new class of mesosiderite". The first descriptions of Gujba in 1988 also classified it as a mesosiderite [ISLAM M.R., OSTAFICZUK S. (1988) The Gujba mesosiderite: its petrology, mineralogy and impact (Annals of Borno 5, 110-124)] but in 2001, Bencubbin, Gujba, HaH 237, QUE 94411, QUE 94627 and Weatherford were assigned a new, separate group: WEISBERG M.K. et al. (2001) A new metal-rich chondrite grouplet - CB chondrites (MAPS 36-3, 2001, pp. 401-418).
