Please excuse the off topic nature of this post..........
Although I don't live in AZ. I have made many day trips (and longer) while
visiting the shows to see some of the sites around this beautiful state.
This is just a small listing of places to go and things to do. I am sure the
locals have some good ideas they would not mind sharing.

San Xavier del Bac Mission -
A mission founded in 1692, very well preserved, incredible architecture and
easy to get to. Just South of Tucson. (about 10 mi. from town.)

Kitt Peak National Observatory -
19 optical and 2 radio telescopes, 56 miles SW of Tucson and well worth the
drive. This time of year the road to the top may be closed because of snow
and ice. Contact them before making this trip.

Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum -
Just west of town and Nice ride through the Saguaro National Park.
"We are a renowned zoo, natural history museum and botanical garden, all in
one place. Explore our desert paths and you're sure to encounter Gila
monsters, hummingbirds, boojums, and much more amidst the beautiful Tucson
Mountains." AND meteorites inside the Museum.

"The Saguaro National Park was made a national monument in 1933. In Nov of
1961, President Kennedy signed a bill expanding the monument to include
Tucson Mountain Park. Then on 14 Oct 1994, Saguaro National Park was
established."

Sabino Canyon -
Easy to get to..nice hiking....well worth visiting...East side of town.
"Sabino Canyon is one of Tucson's natural treasures. Fed by the waters of
Sabino Creek and sheltered by the canyon walls, the plants and animals that
inhabit the canyon offer an interesting contrast to those found in the
surrounding desert. The shade and cool water attract Tucsonans year round to
this site."

Tombstone -
A tourist area for sure but a neat place to visit to see the OK Corral,
where Wyatt Earp and the Clantons had their famous gunfight. (This is a full
day trip from Tucson)
