FBI investigates possible shuttle debris in Arizona
Associated Press
February 4, 2003

Phoenix -- The FBI is checking into reports that possible debris from the space shuttle
Columbia has been found in Phoenix.

An FBI spokeswoman says the team is working with the Arizona Department of Public
Safety
and has responded to several locations.

In Houston, NASA spokesman Kyle Herring says there is a possibility the debris was from
Columbia. But he says he hadn't heard any confirmation of that and no agency
investigators
had been dispatched to Phoenix.

FBI spokeswoman Susan Herskovits says an FBI team working with the Arizona
Department of Public Safety responded to several locations in central Phoenix. Arizona
DPS
spokesman Frank Valenzuela says his agency had described some of the debris to NASA
officials and had been told it could potentially be from the shuttle.
