Flaming Meteorite In Show Near McPherson
McPHERSON, Kas., Dec. 10 - (AP) - A flaming meteorite, passing over
McPherson from the south-west to the northeast caused no small amount of
excitement before daylight today.
The police, fire department and highway patrol were called and a search
started for what at first was thought to have been an airplane in flames. A
long, white trail of smoke still hung in the windless sky over the city a
half hour afterwards.
At Little River, 20 miles west of here, freight handlers said they
heard a roar and saw the sky light up like day. Looking up, they saw a
meteorite passing overhead.
Motorists coming into McPherson from the east on US 5 said they saw the
meteorite which continued in a northeastern direction.
