Hi All, When I started collecting meteorites seriously in the early eighties (about thirty years ago), I purchased my first Allende specimens at about 75 cents per gram and I had to pay about 38 cents per gram for Nuevo Mercurios. Peekskill sold for about US $ 20-25 per gram.
The US $ was about 2.62 German Marks in those days (Apr 04, 1984). In his Fall 1987 Meteorite List, David New offered Allende for about $3.00 per gram (exchange rate: 1 US $ = 1.8093 DM, Sep 11, 1987). David New, Sep 1991: (exchange rate: 1 US $ about 1.76-1.80 DM) Allende without fusion crust ca. $ 4.50 Allende with fusion crust ca. $ 5.50-6.00 Michael Casper's Allende pieces in 1998: - ca. $ 5/ g for a 1/2 individual with fusion crust and polished face. - a complete individual: 7.547 kg @ $ 50 000 (about $ 6.60 / g).
