Hi Jim

Really suggestive of an octahedral structure. But I'm going to go with some railroad slag of some sort. Too hard to see in the picture whether there are any bubbles, but still the smoothed side is highly suspicious for a piece of slag that was crushed, maybe with other crap added to it.
Is that anything close?

of about 4.6g/cc and has a lot of metal in the matrix.
