Hi Brian. Thank you for the reply and I am very well aware of who you are
and Lonestar Meteorites. I understand your concern and apologize for not
putting in the "*" between the name when I mentioned lonestar*meteorites
seller on eBay. I believe that this name similarity was explained here on
the List but agree that it needed to be explained again as you did. I hope
that forwarding this reply back to you and the Met List clarifies any
confusion to you and your Buyers/Patrons and anyone reading this posts.
Sincerely
Don Merchant

Hello Don,
My name is Brian Barnett. I have been a collector of meteorites since about
1968 and a dealer operating under the name "Lonestar Meteorites" since the
late 1990's. I am licensed under that name by the Texas Comptrollers Office
and by the county where I live.
I was informed last night that a person using the Ebay name
"lonestar*meteorites" existed. After reading your posts to the list this
evening, I wanted to clarify that we are not one and the same. The posts I
am reading cause me some alarm as my usual customers may read them. With
that said, I do not sell meteorites on Ebay but only at Texas gem & mineral
shows.
I appreciate what you are trying to do but felt it necessary to clarify that
my company "Lonestar Meteorites" is not advertising on Ebay under the name
lonestar*meteorites.
Thanks for your time,
Brian

I guess what is most shocking of all this is his 100% feedback. Even more
bizarre and no offense to anyone, is that if you click his feedback
(feedback left as a Seller) there are many familiar names of Buyers in
the meteorite collecting community who should know better then risk
taking a chance purchasing any specimens, especially after this Seller
has been targeted for questionable authenticity of meteorite specimens in
his auctions.
*
What scares me most is that the many specimens this Seller has sold over
time will someday make their way back to the collecting community and
most likely via future eBay auctions. These Buyers/Collectors of
"lonestar meteorites" auctions, may eventually re-sell these specimens
either to acquire a bigger piece or different specimen thus tainting
(most likely unknowingly) other peoples meteorite collections by selling
a specimen that was not what it really is.
*
Here again I can only express as I have done over and over again
(sounding like a broken record) either on my Website, my eBay auctions
or this List, the importance of PROVENANCE! I fully understand that
sometimes provenance can get lost in time with paper work...it has
happened to me but not very often. The importance of keeping RECORDS and
your paper work of the sale, such as the Seller's name, the COA if one is
supplied and the ID card etc should be first and foremost and only takes
a few minutes of time! You need to have this in order to protect yourself
and especially if you re-sell your meteorite. These meteorite specimens
just don't grow on trees in peoples backyards! They have to have come
from somewhere, someone. Ask a Seller for this specimens history
information. Demand some kind of Provenance or COA, at least an ID Card
and have them sign it before you even consider to bid or buy. Protect,
Protect, Protect yourself and your ass-ets.! Most importantly protect
your fellow meteorite collecting community from the wrongful
misrepresentation of specimens being sold by speaking up and warning
others such as this List the IMCA and other meteorite organizations, so
we can get rid of these type plagues.
Just my thoughts.

Sincerely

List,
I would like to give my opinion regarding Bryan Scarborough a.k.a,
lonestar*meteorites.
I try to give everyone the benifit of the doubt and after hearing the
questions about John/Bryan's Tissint listing I had to go and look at his
listings for myself. While doing so that I noticed he had a 27.2g "Oum
Dreyga" slice he was selling that looked an awful lot like an
unclassified slice I purchased from him a couple years ago. It was the
next slice after mine so I recognized the inclusions and shape
immediately.
I can honestly say my slice is not Oum Dreyga as similar as they look.
Oum Dreyga has twice the metal flakes as mine and I'm positive, as his.
Mine is much more likely an L-chondrite, not an H. Though very similar
at first glance they are indeed different and I've spent the last half
hour verifying my claim.
I would not trust one damn thing this guy sells! This is now the second
stone he is selling which I know first hand isn't having both his
specimen and the actual specimen he is representing it as.
He is still up to his old game and now I am positive! Buyers still
beware!
Just thought I would share my 2ยข.
