How did he know it was traveling towards him and not away? It's nearly
impossible to distinguish between the two cases unless it actually
passed overhead.

north facing window in Derby when as he looked up he saw a large
meteor traveling almost directly towards him....so traveling
south....it was dropping sparks behind...brightest he had ever seen
even though he was in doors with the light on....it lasted around five
