Hi Larry, I would have to agree - not much longer than within the last year or 2. If it's longer than that, I would be surprised because the fusion crust is still pitch black all the way around.
I want to send it to get classified. Who do you recommend? I have heard that people have had to wait up to a year to get them back. If so, I would rather take it personally to a lab if you can recommend one. That thing is so fresh, it probably fell in the last year or two. Congrat's on your most excellent find. It was an amazing find and I still can't get over the excitement. I think this is really special find and I can't wait to get it classified and valued! BTW: I have always been apprehensive about setting up a Facebook page but today I finally went ahead and made one. I didn't even have a personal page until today. The page I created today is devoted to Meteorite Hunting And Other Adventures so, if anyone has any great stories, feel free to share them here: http://www.facebook.com/MHAOAdventures. The main reason for not setting up a Facebook page sooner was that I was afraid I might not be able to keep up with updating it and I can't stand stale websites - I'm a perfectionist and I can't stand myself sometimes. :) This marks the second cold find for me. Stories of both finds are on my new Facebook page if anyone is interested to read more. That's a fresh, beautiful chondrite. Well done! It looks so fresh, I wonder if this could possibly be from the recently witnessed Southern CA-NV meteor event? > Doug Ross > [email protected] > > Hi All, > > I was out with my metal detector today in a known area for gold and > instead of gold, I came across this really nice specimen. > http://home.wavedirect.net/~ebay/Pahrump-Meteorite-12-29-12/M1.jpg http://home.wavedirect.net/~ebay/Pahrump-Meteorite-12-29-12/M2.jpg http://home.wavedirect.net/~ebay/Pahrump-Meteorite-12-29-12/M3.jpg http://home.wavedirect.net/~ebay/Pahrump-Meteorite-12-29-12/M4.jpg http://home.wavedirect.net/~ebay/Pahrump-Meteorite-12-29-12/M5.jpg http://home.wavedirect.net/~ebay/Pahrump-Meteorite-12-29-12/M6.jpg http://home.wavedirect.net/~ebay/Pahrump-Meteorite-12-29-12/M7.jpg http://home.wavedirect.net/~ebay/Pahrump-Meteorite-12-29-12/M8.jpg http://home.wavedirect.net/~ebay/Pahrump-Meteorite-12-29-12/M9.jpg http://home.wavedirect.net/~ebay/Pahrump-Meteorite-12-29-12/M10.jpg http://home.wavedirect.net/~ebay/Pahrump-Meteorite-12-29-12/M11.jpg ______________________________________________ Visit the Archives at http://www.meteorite-list-archives.com Meteorite-list mailing list [email protected] http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list ______________________________________________ Visit the Archives at http://www.meteorite-list-archives.com Meteorite-list mailing list [email protected] http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list
