Hi John, I'm driving from SoCal as well. Saves the hassle and expense of flying (which limits what I can bring) and then having to rent a car. Also, unlike a rental car, with my own vehicle I can go off-road if I want, which is handy if you plan to do a little space-rock hunting along the way! --Rob
