Hello Listees, and a belated Happy New Year.
Recently, I received a rather unusual 600 gram 'rock' from a friend on Geoff
Notkin's Club Space Rock. He sent it to me so that I could have a closer look
at it and give him my opinion. He had sanded a small area and noticed that was
metallic. METALLIC?? The thing is solid iron! I filed that area flat, and
polished it up and took the Nitol to it. (It was initially found in Elmore Co.
Alabama around 1920). After seeing a Widmanstatten structure appear, I felt
like a kid at Christmas! The pattern seems to be that of a medium Octahedrite,
similar to that of a Campo, but smaller. It is now going to be sent to Dr. John
Wasson via Geoff Notkin and Dr. Laurence Garvie for classification.
Here is the link to my facebook album for it. Any comments would be most
welcome.

Cheers all!
