Hi Carl, > I've been told provisional names are only given to NWA material and > that all others are referred to as "proposed name".
No, this is incorrect. For instance, there are hundreds of meteorites from dry lakes throughout the desert southwest that have provisional names/numbers that will never become formal names because the finders have no plans to have them analyzed. The Meteoritical Society's webpage discusses the subject of provisional names here: http://meteoriticalsociety.org/?page_id=62 --Rob ______________________________________________ Visit the Archives at http://www.meteorite-list-archives.com Meteorite-list mailing list [email protected] http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list
