Dear all -

I am writing to tell you about an exciting new free app.

It allows anyone to report a fireball sighting anywhere in the world. The
app is available for both iOS
(https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/fireballs-in-the-sky/id709019924?mt=8) and
Android (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tw.fireballs) phones
and has a very easy interface. Basically you point at the sky where you think
the fireball started and click on your phone, and do the same for where you
think you saw the fireball disappear. You can then input all kinds of other
attributes of the fireball. If enough sightings of a single fireball exist,
it will indicate that it was the real thing. Data from a lot of areas will be
collated to form a database of fireball trajectory data, thus allowing more
orbits of extraterrestrial material to be resolved.

This project is funded by the Australian Research Council and is called the
Desert Fireball Network. Information about the project can be found at:
http://www.fireballsinthesky.com.au/

We would be very happy to receive comments, suggestions and feedback.

Thanks very much.

Cheers,
