Kind of a self-serving move by Purdue. Earhart was, at best, a mediocre aviator whose notariety resulted more than anything else from an energetic (often shameless) promotional effort captained by her husband -- George Putnam. Whether she merits this honor on the basis of such manipulated fame is certainly a matter of debate.
