Have to agree with Rob and Chris on this...as I have tried the experiment myself.Put a rock in the freezer until stable temps...then put a blow torch on it for 5 seconds...then put it back in the freezer for 3 minutes (or freezer for 2 and on the counter for 1).It will be cold. The rock will shatter when you put the torch on it. Only a mass of iron will not fracture.Meteorites hitting the ground will be at best ambient temperature, but most will be colder than ambient.Pat
