Is anyone else really bummed out by this? This blows harder than the
Chelyabinsk shockwave.
I don't think the world is better off in the age of social media. The
USENET was a wild wild west and Yahoo Groups were hit and miss, but at
least they weren't nakedly dominated by gazillionaire broligarchs. You
posted something and everyone saw it. If this was Facebook, the algorithm
would hide this reply from most of you because I didn't pay money to
sponsor it or boost it's visibility. Art didn't do this to get rich and
control the discourse. He did it out of passion for meteorites and the
community. That will be lost now and nothing on Facebook or TikTok can
replace it.
So, will noone come to the aid of the widow's son and step up to continue
the Meteorite List or has the age of old-fashioned mailing lists finally
come to an end?
Thanks for all of your work Art. The meteorite world was better because of
this list.
All discussions of meteorites are hereby suspended until further notice ...

Maybe Lost, Never Forgotten.
Thank you Art for 30 years of hosting, catering and sometimes babysitting the
List. As in the cosmos, violent collisions occur that send rocks to us to study
and enjoy. These ?rocks? are then studied, enjoyed and babysit in museums and
private collections alike. Many were shared on this very List, creating
discussions and friendships along the way.
Thank you All for the friendships and contributions. None will be lost or
forgotten!

Greg Hupe

Mr. Jones,
I only know of you, with much admiration. Like many, I will meet with the
void of the Met-List' absence. As the Sun will soon set on its presence, the
Energy of your lengthy efforts, for me, will be transformed to a nostalgic
memory of someone who actually formed an altruistic outlet for others. You
built it and They slowly quit showing up. Thank you for staying in the game for
as long as you did.
My absolute Best and Thanks, to You and your Family.
Now, go have a Happy New Year!
