Hello List, I have two questions, first, does anyone know how many different
classifications there are, including irons?
Second, as Mat Morgan proved with his new H/L 3-4, we have not seen them
all. Would you guess we have only seen a small percentage of the meteorites
out there (still in space) ?
Thanks, Tom

You may want to start here on David Weir's awesome website...

My guess is that you could get numerous different classes, especially with transitional chondrites and those (type 3's) where one could break out the sub-type. Problem is, it is difficult to break these out if the researcher does not have exteremly well-calibrated and accurate equipment. Plus it takes time, and with all these NWAs, they have to prioritize.
