Steve, Yep I have noticed this too, 'Half size slides' seem to go for a similar price to full size ones, so you can see exactly why they do it.
It seems to me that people are getting 'proper size slides' and cutting them in half then re-mounting them. - Fair enough I suppose, but as you say they are next to useless for proper study!
