Hi Jeff
In Rocks from Space (1st Edition) on page 217 and 218, Norton talks about a brick-shaped hexahedrite.  It was a single kamacite crystal and showed only Neumann lines when etched.

Subject: [meteorite-list] Questions: The shape of Iron meteorites and Mesosiderite density.

G'day List,

I have just received a specimen from a prospector which obviously has a very high iron content (probably completely) and is not hematite or anything like that. It has some reasonably flat sides in an almost irregular cube shape. It was found 18 inches underground and in the middle of nowhere. I have seen a few stony meteorites which have similar shapes, but my question is 'can irons have a fairly cubed-type shape too?'

Also, does anyone know how the density of mesosiderites compares with irons and can mesos also go quite rusty when old and weathered? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jeff
