Well Sir & List,
the stone of Paphos pictured on coins of Augustus,
Drusus, Caracalla, Macrinus ect. survived and was found in an
excavation in 1888. It spent 100 years in the stock of the national museum
of Nikosia and some years ago it returned to the local archeological museum in
Kouklia at the temple site.
Of corse it would be of crucial importance, that an
expert should take a look on this piece.
Let's send special agent Farmer there (on the way
to Cyprus he could take a stop to drink a hot chocolate at
Matteo's).
I always asked myself, why nobody prooved that
stone yet. Where are the Met.Soc. members?
It doesn't matter that the chance, that it
could be meteoritic is small, no reason for wearing the nose
high, it's a cultural MUST !!
Here you'll find an detailled article about the
history of the sanctuary of Paphos:
A picture of the archeological site:
And finally the BLACK STONE,
gosh, I was searching so hard for pictures and
couldn't find not a single one,
but Pib Burns did so! Many
thanks!
and
Regards!
