Wow, talk about some things being the same
on earth, as on a spacecraft on another planet. I just finished watching a NASA
brief on C-SPAN concerning the troubles with Spirit. The current thinking was
that since Spirit has a file system that uses the flash memory, perhaps it
cannot manage the number of files that are being demanded of it…. Now, if the motor drives on that
spectroscope mirror are giving the system problems, it is going to generate
error log messages, that of course.. need the file system. Thus you have errors
that cause errors, compounding on themselves eg.. a motor drive error
(hardware) exposing a file system discrepancy (software). Very difficult stuff
to troubleshoot… just like a typical hard to find bug in software on
Windows and Linux… I had a
disk drive on a Linux system do something similar… the disk was formatted
with a large cluster size so that it had decreased capability for storing a lot
of small files. It ran more efficient, since it was designed to handle files
over 1mb each. Now, the error logger also had access to this disk, and as luck
would have it, we had a memory hardware failure that started to log a lot of
small error log messages on the disk, until the disk ran out of entry slots for
file descriptors., which in turn generated disk failure messages that masked
the real cause of the problem….. I wonder if the same type of scenario is
going on up there…. … CharlyV -----Original Message----- Hello again, I am announcing one of
th freshest and most beautiful Diogenites that I have ever seen. It is almost
identical to It is NWA 2081. Two small stones with a total weight
of only 114 grams were found. The listed pieces are ALL 100% of
what is available, the rest was donated for curation. Diogenites are quite rare, and this
one is beautiful. Thanks Mike Farmer |
